I HEART READING: My First Book Review

I was watching Oprah the other day (I DVR her show so I'm not tempted to watch it instead of painting) when she interviewed Laura Bush and said to her, "You are the only other person who loves books as much as I do," and I wanted to shout, "ME TOO!!".
I decided to help get out the word about good books and reading in general.  To start, I'll be reviewing books from time to time on my blog.
Books actually compliment my art business nicely because there is nothing more calming than reading before bed and reading to quiet the brain.  Reading is one thing that requires total concentration and it is one of the only activities where you can't multitask.  (I have tried reading a book while on the treadmill and it was a very poor workout.)  Reading is the best remedy for an over-thinker like me!
My first review is a list of the books I've read so far this year and rate them 1-5, 5 being the best.  After this post, I'll review as I read.  These links also connect to Amazon.  I am testing out a new affiliate program with them since I buy so many books with them.  If you buy through these links, I'll get a little extra change.  THANKS!  Elisabeth
Here goes:
The Help - 5
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society - 3.5
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - 4.5
The Girl Who Played With Fire - 4
Olive Kitterage - 3
The Art of Racing in The Rain - 5
The Book Thief - 4.5
Little Bee - 3
Bridge Of Sighs - 3
The Book of Joe - 3.5
The Hour I First Believed - 5
The Story Of Edgar Sawtelle - 3.5

Please comment and tell me about the good books you've read lately!

I love to read too! My undergrad degree is in Comp Lit!

I cried so hard reading Art of Racing in the Rain. (One of our beloved dogs passed away about 5 years ago.) And I love the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. I noticed that you are David Sedaris fan too! My Talk Pretty One Day is the most hilarious book EVER!

Have your read Foreign Affairs? http://www.amazon.com/Foreign-Affairs-Alison-Lurie/dp/0380709902

Or anything by Gabriel Garcia Marquez?

Some other good books I've read recently:
- Hotel on the Corner of Bitter & Sweet
- Every Last One
- Cutting for Stone (I think you're reading this now, right??)
- Sarah's Key
- Those Who Save Us

I'm finally reading The Art of Racing in the Rain & then I'm going to read the new emily giffin book, which is fluff/chick lit, but I've always liked her style.

Did you read Committed by elizabeth gilbert? I tried, but.....ugh....I couldn't get into it at all!

I'm so happy to get book ideas from your site and from people who comment with their favorites. One I just read is The Elegance of a Hedgehog. I really liked it...4.5 on the scale.
Next I'm going to get The Art of Racing in the Rain. Happy reading!
